Liberty Global public policy series
In October 2009, Liberty Global launched its latest research project under our ‘Public Policy Series’. The study ‘Next Generation Competition – Driving Innovation in Telecommunications’ conducted by Bain & Co., takes stock of the current state of play in broadband competition and describes potential future competitive models and market dynamics against the background of broadband markets migrating towards next generation access status at different speeds. The report makes recommendations on how to incentivize innovation across wireline and wireless networks and takes a view on realistic and sustainable levels of competition achievable on next generation and future generation telecommunications markets. The study finds that next-generation, infrastructure-based competition will allow migration to higher bandwidth networks in line with the development of consumer demand and with the ability for telecommunications providers to recoup their network investments.
The Liberty Global Public Policy research program was initiated in 2005, the year that Liberty Global was established, and was designed to actively contribute to pending policy and regulatory debates, especially at the European Union as well as the national levels of our European markets. The Public Policy Series has so far included studies on Digital TV Migration Strategies; Triple play competition for the Digital Home; Next Generation Networks in Europe; Transformation of the European Video Content Market and ‘Digital Confidence’ on how to secure consumer trust as a precondition for future market growth.
