Unitymedia, Germany
On January 28, 2010, Liberty Global completed the acquisition of 100% of Unitymedia GmbH ("Unitymedia”), the second largest cable television operator in Germany. Unitymedia provides analog & digital cable video, broadband internet and  digital (VoIP) telephony to 5.8 million service subscribers (RGUS) represented by 4.6 million customers. In 2007, Unitymedia introduced Unity3play, which has become the lead package for digital TV, high speed internet and telephony services. 

Unitymedia is the largest cable television operator in the German federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse, which are among the most prosperous and densely populated regions in Germany and Europe. The cable footprint, passing approximately 8.8 million homes, covers ten of the twenty largest cities in Germany, including Cologne, Dusseldorf, and Frankfurt. Its networks are 92% upgraded to two-way capability.

Video

Unitymedia provides analog and digital video services. The analog TV package includes up to 36 television channels and 34 radio channels. The basic digital TV package includes up to 72 television channels and 65 radio channels which can be complemented by an additional 73 pay channels bundled in 4 special interest packages and another 50 international channels in 12 languages. Unitymedia’s digital services include premium and HD programming, DVR time-shifting capability and on demand services.

Internet
Unitymedia offers multiple tiers of broadband internet services to its customers. Download speeds range from 2 Mbps to 120 Mbps with its next-generation broadband internet service. Its 120 Mbps product is available in the cities of Aachen and Cologne where the rollout of DOCSIS 3.0 was started at the end of 2009. Unitymedia plans to accelerate its DOCSIS 3.0 roll-out in 2010.
